Ripple Prime has deepened its integration with decentralized perpetual exchange Hyperliquid, adding onchain perpetual contracts for commodities including gold, silver and crude oil. CEO Mike Higgins announced the rollout of HIP-3 symbols, giving institutional clients direct access to decentralized derivatives while managing positions alongside traditional assets under a single margin framework.
From Crypto to Commodities: HIP-3 Symbols Go Live
The update builds on an earlier integration in February 2026, which initially enabled crypto-only perpetual markets. Now, HIP-3 symbols extend that access to traditional commodities. According to Higgins, institutions can gain new exposure without setting up separate systems. Traders can directly execute commodity derivatives onchain while maintaining existing portfolio positions — no need for multiple wallets or fragmented collateral setups. Users avoid direct smart contract interaction while still tapping into decentralized liquidity.
Unified Margin Cuts Operational Friction
Ripple Prime allows institutions to manage decentralized and traditional holdings within one interface, covering foreign exchange, fixed income and OTC swaps. Users can offset risks across asset classes without moving funds between platforms. Higgins noted the system merges TradFi exposure with decentralized infrastructure, keeping portfolio management centralized while broadening asset access. The model aligns with institutional demands for simplified workflows and consolidated reporting.
Hyperliquid: $5B Open Interest, $200B+ Monthly Volume
Hyperliquid has grown into the largest decentralized perpetual trading venue, with open interest exceeding $5 billion and monthly trading volume surpassing $200 billion. That scale supports deep liquidity for both crypto and commodity derivatives.
Ripple Prime Background: Post-Hidden Road Acquisition
Launched in late 2025 after Ripple's $1.25 billion acquisition of prime broker Hidden Road, Ripple Prime continues expanding its institutional toolkit. The platform aims to bridge traditional financial systems with decentralized markets through integrated trading infrastructure.
