Blockchain payments firm Ripple released an update on April 2 via X, detailing the measurable impact of its RLUSD stablecoin initiative. The company donated 15 million RLUSD (issued on the XRP Ledger) to the Accion Opportunity Fund in September 2025. Since then, the program has deployed $53.6 million in capital, issued 905 loans to 895 unique borrowers, with an average loan size of $59,000. Crucially, the initiative has created 1,003 jobs and retained 1,631 positions.
Expanding Access to Capital for Underserved Entrepreneurs
The program focuses on widening access to affordable capital, financial education, and advisory services for entrepreneurs who are often overlooked by traditional banks. Accion Opportunity Fund uses the donation to expand its lending programs and to provide structured business support, including mentorship and digital tools. This model integrates financing with learning platforms to help owners manage growth over the long term, targeting sustainable outcomes rather than short-term funding gaps.
“Our collaboration with Ripple shows how blockchain-enabled finance can combine with traditional lending frameworks to deliver tangible economic benefits to communities,” said Accion Opportunity Fund’s CEO (paraphrasing available quotes). Participants gain access to tailored resources, workshops, and advisory networks that address specific business challenges, thereby reducing barriers that often limit growth opportunities for smaller enterprises.
Blockchain’s Role in Measurable Outcomes
Ripple’s initiative demonstrates how blockchain can facilitate efficient, scalable capital deployment while integrating with existing financial systems. The reported outcomes include job support, increased economic output, and expanded borrower reach. Ripple continues to promote its strategy of applying blockchain infrastructure to real-world financial challenges.
Eric van Miltenburg, Ripple’s Senior Vice President of Strategic Initiatives, shared on X: “Very proud of the work Ripple is doing with the Accion Opportunity Fund. Great to see RLUSD driving real-world value for small business owners!”
Separately, Ripple Prime, a subsidiary, has achieved an investment-grade credit rating backed by $39 billion in assets, placing it among trusted institutional brokerages. This rating further solidifies Ripple’s institutional credibility, though the core focus remains on the RLUSD lending impact.
The results underscore how blockchain-based finance can bridge gaps in traditional lending, fostering job creation and financial inclusion in diverse markets across the United States. As more data emerges, Ripple’s RLUSD experiment provides a compelling case study for stablecoins enabling real economic growth beyond speculation.
