Ripple has launched the XRPL AI Starter Kit, a developer package built to let AI agents send, receive, and manage payments on the XRP Ledger with limited human input. The release also adds support for x402 payments using XRP and Ripple USD (RLUSD). Even so, the market Ripple is entering is still heavily centered on stablecoins, with USDC holding the strongest position in x402 payment activity.

New toolkit is aimed at autonomous software payments

Ripple said the toolkit is designed for software agents that need to handle transactions with little manual involvement. The first version includes access to the XRPL Docs MCP Server, allowing applications such as Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, and custom agent frameworks to pull XRP Ledger documentation when needed. Ripple also released wallet and payment tools for Claude, covering wallet creation, balance checks, transaction tracking, and payment execution. The focus is direct: give AI agents practical tools to operate with on-chain payments.

Ripple said AI agents are already being used to pay for computing resources, settle invoices, and complete transactions. Its argument is that traditional payment systems were built around human approvals and reconciliation, a structure that does not fit software that needs transactions to settle automatically. The x402 protocol offers another model. It uses the HTTP 402 “Payment Required” response code so a software agent can make a blockchain payment inside a normal web request flow.

USDC still dominates the current x402 transaction base

Data cited by Ripple shows how much ground XRP and RLUSD still need to cover. x402 was originally developed by Coinbase and is now maintained by the Linux Foundation’s x402 Foundation. Ripple cited a Chainalysis report published in early June showing that x402 activity on Base went from almost zero in mid-2025 to more than 100 million cumulative transactions in the first quarter of 2026. The report also said part of the sharp jump recorded in late 2025 was tied to PING, a pay-to-mint meme coin project that drove speculative transaction activity.

Additional figures from Web3 Trackers put cumulative x402 activity at more than 120 million transactions, with over $41 million in settled USDC volume. Base accounts for about 70 million transactions and $21.5 million in volume, while Solana has processed around 45 million transactions worth $16.4 million. The dashboard also shows an average payment size of roughly $0.05. Against that backdrop, Ripple is highlighting the XRP Ledger’s three-to-five-second settlement time, predictable fees, native escrow, multisignature support, and built-in decentralized exchange.

Ripple is also widening RLUSD payment rails

The AI-agent toolkit is only one part of the company’s payments push. Ripple has also been expanding infrastructure tied to RLUSD and the XRP Ledger. Mastercard recently launched an AI payments network backed by more than 30 companies, including Ripple, Coinbase, and the Solana Foundation. Mastercard has also added RLUSD to its stablecoin settlement infrastructure, which supports settlements across Ethereum, Solana, Polygon, Base, Arbitrum, Canton, Tempo, and the XRP Ledger.

Ripple has also integrated Bitso’s Mexican peso-backed stablecoin MXNB into its enterprise payments network. According to the company, MXNB and RLUSD will support liquidity and settlement for regulated transactions between the United States and Mexico using blockchain-based payment rails.

Adoption details remain limited

Ripple did not disclose any production-scale deployments, transaction volume, or named customers using XRP or RLUSD for AI-agent payments. What is public so far is the tooling and the infrastructure buildout. Actual usage at scale has not been detailed. Academic researchers have also warned that x402 adds technical risks around payment authorization, proof validation, and synchronization between web services and blockchain transactions, leaving developers with issues that still need to be addressed as machine-to-machine payments grow.
