Ripple said the XRP Ledger is moving into a new phase, with ecosystem funding shifting from centralized programs to a broader support structure. More than $550 million has been deployed since 2017, and independent groups will take a bigger role starting in 2026.

Ripple said the XRP Ledger ecosystem is entering a new phase, with funding and builder support moving away from a structure dominated by Ripple-backed programs toward a distributed model involving independent organizations, venture partners, regional hubs, and community-led groups. The company said more than $550 million has been deployed into XRPL ecosystem initiatives since 2017, and the structural shift will become more visible starting in 2026.

For years, much of the capital flowing into the ecosystem came through Ripple-supported initiatives such as XRPL Grants and accelerator programs. Those efforts backed nearly 200 projects across payments, DeFi, tokenization, AI, gaming, e-commerce, carbon markets, and enterprise finance. Ripple said that support helped the network grow from a small developer base into a global builder community. Now the emphasis is changing. The goal is not only to keep funding teams, but to open more entry points for capital, technical guidance, and project development.

More than $550 million sets up a new funding structure

According to Ripple, the capital deployed since 2017 covered non-equity grants, builder incentives, strategic partnerships, and growth programs. Those allocations helped launch startups and reinforce core infrastructure on XRPL. Hackathons and bounty programs also served as early onramps for developers testing use cases on the network. As the ecosystem expanded, builders asked for clearer visibility into available resources and how to access them. This latest change is framed as a response to that demand.

The main adjustment is a broader distribution of decision-making across the support system. Ripple said that from 2026, independent organizations, venture firms, regional hubs, and community-led entities will take a larger role in allocating funding. For startups building on XRPL, that means capital access may increasingly come through multiple channels rather than one central program stack.

FinTech Builder Program launches alongside DAO-based allocation

One of the main additions is the FinTech Builder Program, aimed at startups building institutional-grade financial applications on XRPL. Ripple said the program will focus on stablecoin payments, credit infrastructure, tokenization, and regulated financial services. Unlike a standard grant track, the program is designed to support founders from early development through product launch.

Ripple also plans to expand accelerator partnerships with venture firms and startup platforms, linking founders with global investors, mentors, and ecosystem partners. Regional startup competitions will be used to identify teams working on XRPL use cases, while builder awards are intended to support projects in the post-hackathon stage. Governance is changing as well. XAO DAO is set to operate as a hybrid decentralized organization for XRPL, with members voting on microgrant allocations and participating in community grants, feedback loops, and proposal-based initiatives.

Regional hubs and universities widen builder access

Under the distributed framework, several independent groups will continue adding support capacity across the XRPL ecosystem. XRPL Commons will keep backing builders through efforts including the GLOW program and The Aquarium incubator in Paris, which has supported startup teams in the XRPL ecosystem since 2023. XRP Asia is also being developed as a regional hub focused on adoption and localized funding support across the Asia-Pacific region.

Academic programs are expanding too. The University Digital Asset Xcelerator launched at UC Berkeley and is scheduled to scale in 2026 to Fundação Getulio Vargas and the University of Oxford, supporting university founders and impact-oriented startups building on XRPL. Venture participation is also growing, with a100x Ventures, Superscrypt, Reforge, New Form Capital, Dragonfly, Pantera, Franklin Templeton, and Tenity involved through mentorship and investment in XRPL startups.
