Nate Geraci, president of ETF Store, disclosed on social media platform X that Atlas Capital, co-founded with the involvement of renowned economist Nouriel Roubini—widely known as “Dr. Doom” for his accurate predictions of financial crises—is planning to issue a digital token backed by U.S.-listed exchange-traded funds (ETFs). Geraci quoted Roubini's stance, stating that “Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are not real money. We need better collateral, better reserve assets, and better stores of value.”
Roubini has long been a vocal critic of the cryptocurrency space, frequently arguing that digital assets lack fundamental value and are prone to manipulation. His involvement in a project that creates a digital token—even one backed by regulated ETFs—is seen as a highly symbolic move. Geraci noted that this development marks a notable shift in the interaction between traditional finance and the digital asset world and deserves close attention from industry participants.
