Ryze Labs says softer CPI briefly lifted stocks and bitcoin, but the Fed’s hawkish dot plot and Powell’s remarks triggered a pullback. The firm also highlighted how corporate crypto holdings are amplifying both volatility and strategic opportunity.

Softer-than-expected U.S. CPI data initially boosted risk appetite, sending equities to record highs and pushing bitcoin above $70,000 on June 12. But according to Ryze Labs, that optimism quickly faded after the Federal Reserve delivered a more hawkish signal than markets had hoped for, underscoring how fragile sentiment remains in a macro-driven environment.

Ryze Labs noted that while the Fed left interest rates unchanged, it also updated its median implied federal funds rate for 2024 to 5.1%. That combination complicated the market narrative. Chair Jerome Powell acknowledged recent progress on inflation during his press conference, yet the dot plot suggested a firmer policy stance than many investors expected. As a result, markets gave back part of the post-CPI rally and began repricing the path of future easing.

The firm said investors are now adjusting expectations for rate cuts later in the year. Based on interest-rate futures cited in its commentary, markets are currently pricing in two cuts in 2024, with a 56% probability of a September cut, followed by a possible second move in December. In practice, that means the market still expects easing, but on a slower and more cautious timeline.

Corporate Crypto Exposure Is Reshaping Market Volatility

Beyond macro policy, Ryze Labs also focused on the growing role of crypto assets on corporate balance sheets. As more listed companies add bitcoin and other digital assets to their treasury strategies, stock performance is becoming more closely tied to crypto price swings, increasing both financial upside and risk exposure.

Referring to a study spanning five years across multiple countries, Ryze Labs said companies such as Microstrategy and Tesla saw greater stock volatility after investing in BTC. In its view, these examples show that crypto adoption at the corporate level can materially affect capital-market behavior and raise the importance of treasury management and risk controls.

The firm also pointed to developments in Hong Kong, highlighting Meitu as a notable case. Its strategic purchases of bitcoin and ethereum contributed to higher share-price volatility, but were also associated with strong year-over-year revenue growth. Ryze Labs argues that in more technology-forward sectors, crypto holdings are increasingly being treated not just as speculative bets, but as part of a broader corporate finance strategy.

Macro Policy and Digital Assets Are Becoming More Intertwined

In Ryze Labs’ assessment, the financial system is at a pivotal moment. Central banks are still trying to contain inflation without undermining economic stability, while businesses are integrating cryptocurrencies into treasury planning and capital allocation. The combination is creating a more complex market structure where traditional assets and digital assets increasingly influence one another.

For investors, the message is clear: market direction is being shaped simultaneously by inflation data, interest-rate expectations, and the expanding role of crypto in public-company balance sheets. That leaves sentiment highly sensitive, but it also signals a deeper structural shift in how global finance may evolve from here.
