On September 5, 12 Bitcoin addresses that had been dormant for over 16 years transferred a combined 600 BTC, worth approximately $48 million. The coins originated from mining rewards in March 2010, a period when Satoshi Nakamoto was still active. Whale Alert, a blockchain tracking service, reported that the 600 BTC came from 12 block rewards and found no direct link to Satoshi. Earlier, Lookonchain had identified seven of the wallets, which had moved 350 BTC after about 16.5 years of inactivity. Whale Alert also noted a pattern consistent with a test transaction preceding the main transfers, as one reward was moved a few blocks earlier than the others.
