SBI Ripple Asia said it has completed and rolled out its token issuance platform on the XRP Ledger, opening a new regulated payment use case in Japan. The system is built to support prepaid payment tokens under Japan’s legal framework and follows the company’s registration as a third-party issuer on March 26, 2026. The launch places blockchain payment functions inside existing financial services instead of pushing users toward a separate standalone product.
APIs bring XRPL functions into existing apps
According to the company, businesses can issue and manage tokens through API connections. Those APIs connect blockchain infrastructure directly to existing apps and websites, which means firms do not need to rebuild their user interfaces to introduce tokenized value. That detail matters. Users keep interacting with familiar services while gaining access to blockchain-based payment instruments.
SBI Ripple Asia also said the platform uses proprietary wallet control technology to manage access to tokens securely. No deeper technical specifications were provided in the source material, but the operating model is clear: wallet permissions and token handling are being folded into a controlled enterprise payment environment.
Prepaid token issuance aligned with Japan’s rules
The framework is designed to comply with Japan’s Payment Services Act, placing issuance within the rules that govern prepaid payment instruments. After securing registration, SBI Ripple Asia can now issue prepaid payment tokens directly on XRPL. These tokens are intended for multi-merchant use across partner networks, allowing users to preload them with Japanese yen and spend them at approved locations.
The platform is aimed at real-world payment activity rather than closed-loop pilots. The company highlighted economic zones such as tourist destinations as a focus area. Businesses can connect spending behavior to incentive programs, creating reward systems linked to consumer activity inside the same payment structure.
Fast settlement supports broader payment flows
Transactions on the XRP Ledger settle within seconds and at low cost, giving the platform room to support scalable payment use cases. For users, the main change is speed at settlement. For businesses, the attraction is keeping that speed while operating inside an established regulatory framework.
Outside the product launch, activity on XRP Ledger is also rising. The source noted growth in both addresses and transactions per ledger, pointing to wider participation and a broader set of use cases. SBI VC Trade has also introduced RLUSD in Japan, adding another settlement option inside the ecosystem, while SBI Ripple Asia and DSRV are studying cross-border payments between Japan and South Korea. Together, those moves add more payment flows to XRPL.
