The SEC has approved Cboe's rule change to list options on the WisdomTree Bitcoin Fund (BTCW), opening a new regulated derivatives avenue for spot Bitcoin ETFs. While options enable hedging and risk management, actual trading awaits exchange and clearinghouse readiness.

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has approved a rule change from Cboe Options Exchange that lets it list options on the WisdomTree Bitcoin Fund (BTCW). That opens the door to regulated derivatives trading linked to spot Bitcoin ETFs in the United States.

But this approval only covers listing options on BTCW. It is not a new spot Bitcoin ETF. For institutional traders, these listed options can serve for hedging, income strategies, volatility positioning, and tighter risk management.

The real start of options trading still hinges on whether the exchange and clearing agencies are ready. So investors have to wait for the exchange to confirm the exact listing details. The move is viewed as another expansion of Bitcoin-related products inside a regulated market structure. (NewsBTC)
