BlockBeats reported on June 21 that Serenity published a post correcting what it described as a common market misunderstanding of SIVE. In Serenity’s view, SIVE should not be seen merely as a laser supplier for CPO scale-up. Instead, Serenity said SIVE’s laser products cover pluggable optical modules, CPO scale-out, CPO scale-up, NPO and other next-generation optical interconnect architectures.
The Sivers and JBL cooperation as Serenity’s main example
Serenity pointed to the cooperation between Sivers and JBL as the strongest supporting example. The two parties jointly developed a 1.6T optical transceiver using CW lasers. According to Serenity, this design effectively bypasses the capacity bottleneck of EML, or electro-absorption modulated lasers, while also delivering lower power consumption. Serenity cited Jabil management as describing the moat around the solution as “quite deep.”
Following Jabil’s announcement, Serenity said other pluggable optical module manufacturers had already reached out to SIVE. Serenity described these efforts as currently being in joint development or certification stages. These developments have not yet been disclosed publicly, and Serenity said new announcements could appear at any time. Serenity also noted that, apart from Lumentum, most optical module manufacturers are not vertically integrated, which makes Sivers’ position as an independent laser supplier more important in that supply chain context.
The 2026 to 2027 timeline for CPO scale-out and scale-up
Looking at the longer timeline, Serenity said CPO scale-out will begin in the second half of 2026. POET was cited as an example, with SIVE acting as its laser supplier. BlockBeats added that CPO scale-out refers to optical interconnects across racks and clusters, used for data-center-level network expansion.
For CPO scale-up, Serenity said large-scale volume growth is expected in the second half of 2027, driven by Ayar and Nvidia’s NVLink CPO ecosystem. BlockBeats explained that CPO scale-up refers to using CPO inside a single AI server or rack to improve interconnect bandwidth between GPUs or accelerators. Serenity described this stage as the core volume ramp point for the broader optical interconnect track.
SIVE’s position across the supply-chain map
Serenity further said that, from a supply-chain mapping perspective, SIVE stands ahead of all players at this node. The reason given was Serenity’s view that SIVE had already entered design cooperation years earlier with companies including Marvell Celestial, Lightmatter and Lightelligence. In addition, at foundries such as GlobalFoundries, or GFS, SIVE is already used as a reference laser.
Serenity also said major manufacturers including O-Net are building ELS solutions based on SIVE, with the target directed toward the supply chain of Asian hyperscale cloud providers. Combining pluggable optical modules, CPO scale-out, CPO scale-up, NPO and ELS, Serenity’s conclusion was that SIVE will appear in almost all new optical interconnect architectures starting in 2027. Serenity described SIVE as its most favored long target tied to the laser bottleneck in this field.
