Serenity, known in Chinese crypto circles as the “white-haired stock god,” publicly criticized social media platform X and said the company should crack down on what he described as engagement networks built on paid interactions. According to his post, some companies pay influencers to comment on or quote their posts, then expand that activity through batches of affiliated accounts carrying names with words like “Finance” or country labels.
He said those linked accounts can be grown to a meaningful size and then used to boost one another’s metrics through coordinated quoting and replies. In Serenity’s description, the model does not stop at simple promotion. Once the accounts build scale, they may gather tens of thousands, or even hundreds of thousands, of followers and use that reach to amplify more related accounts.
Serenity argued that if the pattern continues, X could end up being dominated by engagement networks centered on marketing company products, while independent and genuine voices on the platform are pushed aside.
Odaily reported that Serenity criticized social media platform X, saying the platform should move against all “engagement networks” that pay others to quote or comment on posts.
In his post, Serenity said some companies pay influencers to comment on or quote company posts. He also said they create batches of new affiliated accounts carrying names that include “Finance” or country names, then raise engagement metrics after those accounts reach a certain size by having them quote one another’s posts.
Serenity added that these affiliated accounts may eventually accumulate tens of thousands, and in some cases hundreds of thousands, of followers. He said they can then use that influence to increase exposure for other related accounts. If this model keeps spreading, he said, X could ultimately be dominated by “engagement networks” built around marketing company products, while independent and authentic voices on the platform are squeezed out.
