Odaily Planet Daily reported that industry sources said on Sunday that SK hynix added more than 2,000 employees last year as the global AI boom lifted demand for memory chips. The data cited in the report showed that by the end of 2025, SK hynix had 34,549 employees, an increase of 2,159 from the previous year. The figure aligns with the report’s description that the company added more than 2,000 staff members during the year.
Diverging staffing trends in chip operations
Over the same period, the Device Solutions division of Samsung Electronics, which is responsible for the company’s chip business, had 78,064 employees, down from 78,699 a year earlier. The figures place SK hynix’s hiring expansion alongside a decline in headcount at Samsung Electronics’ chip-focused division under the same year-end comparison.
By the end of last year, the combined number of chip-related workers at the two technology giants reached 112,613, up 1,554 year on year. The numbers cited by the report show that SK hynix increased its overall workforce while Samsung Electronics’ Device Solutions division had fewer employees, with the combined chip-related workforce of the two companies still higher than the previous year.
