SoFi has started supporting Solana deposits for its 13.7 million customers, allowing users to move SOL from external wallets directly into their crypto accounts. Inside the same platform, they can now buy, sell, hold, and transfer SOL. The update was announced publicly on X.
The change places Solana activity inside a regulated banking framework. Rather than relying on a separate crypto app, SoFi users can manage digital assets alongside checking, savings, and other financial products through a single interface. One app remains the access point. The range of activity inside it is broader now.
External wallet deposits expand beyond simple crypto exposure
According to the source material, the key addition is direct Solana network deposit support, which means users are not limited to brokerage-style exposure tied to asset prices. They can bring SOL in from external wallets and keep those balances within their SoFi accounts. That shortens the path between on-chain transfers and a bank-based account environment.
The report also says this setup connects traditional banking products with a live public blockchain network. In the U.S., that remains uncommon for an institution operating under a national bank charter. By adding Solana deposits, SoFi extends its crypto offering beyond basic access and gives users a regulated route to on-chain activity that is still rare among American banks.
National bank charter meets live blockchain access
SoFi was founded in 2011 as a student loan refinancing company and later obtained a national bank charter. The bank now manages more than $50 billion in assets and holds tens of billions of dollars in deposits. With its customer base reaching 13.7 million, the new Solana deposit option brings public blockchain access to a much larger group of banking users without requiring them to leave the SoFi app.
The source also notes SoFi’s profile beyond financial services. The company holds naming rights to SoFi Stadium, which has hosted Super Bowl LVI and WrestleMania 39. The venue is scheduled to host multiple 2026 FIFA World Cup matches and is expected to take a central role in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The Solana integration arrives as SoFi continues to build a broad national presence.
NS3.AI described the combination of federally chartered oversight and on-chain transfer capability as an unusual form of regulated crypto access for U.S. users. With Solana deposits now live, SoFi customers can handle digital assets and traditional banking functions within the same regulated platform.
