Digital financial services company SoFi Technologies (Nasdaq: SOFI) unveiled ambitious plans on June 25, 2025, to introduce blockchain-based global remittances and relaunch cryptocurrency investing later this year. CEO Anthony Noto declared that the future of financial services is being completely reinvented through innovations in crypto, digital assets, and blockchain.

Crypto and Blockchain Innovation Accelerated

In an official statement, SoFi said it will roll out two core innovations: self-serve international money transfers (global remittances) and crypto investing. “We’re accelerating our efforts to give members more choice and more control, whether they’re investing, sending money across borders, or planning for their future,” Noto said. He stressed that crypto and blockchain innovations will be threaded through each of SoFi’s business capabilities, including buying, paying, saving, investing, borrowing, and protecting.

The company reported strong Q1 2025 performance: record net revenue of $772 million, net income of $71 million, total membership of 10.9 million (up 34% year-over-year), and total assets reaching $37.75 billion. This robust financial foundation underpins the new crypto push.

Blockchain Remittances: Disrupting Cross-Border Payments

The new international remittance service will enable SoFi Money members to transfer funds globally via blockchain networks, converting U.S. dollars into local currencies for near-instant deposits, with full transparency on fees and exchange rates. This feature aims to disrupt traditional cross-border payments, which exceeded $93 billion in U.S. remittances in 2023. SoFi stated, “We’re building a future where people can seamlessly send money around the world and have the tools and education to safely use crypto and digital assets.”

In parallel, SoFi will relaunch crypto investing, allowing users to trade major assets such as Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH). The company noted: “Marking our return to crypto investing, SoFi members later this year will be able to buy, sell, and hold a selection of cryptocurrencies.” Future expansions include stablecoins, staking, crypto-backed lending, and blockchain infrastructure offerings through its technology arm, Galileo.

Regulatory Compliance and Banking-Grade Advantage

SoFi’s crypto strategy benefits from key regulatory clarity. Following recent guidance from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), SoFi Bank N.A. now holds federal clearance to provide crypto custody and stablecoin reserve services. This uniquely positions SoFi at the intersection of regulated banking and emerging blockchain innovation. Analysts view this “banking-grade compliance” plus “crypto innovation” model as a potential industry standard. With SoFi re-entering the crypto market, the convergence between traditional finance and digital assets is accelerating, promising faster, cheaper cross-border payments and diversified digital asset investment services for users.
