Digital financial services company SoFi Technologies (Nasdaq: SOFI) announced on June 25, 2025, that it will launch blockchain-powered global remittances and reintroduce crypto investing later this year. The move marks a significant return to digital assets for SoFi and underscores the fintech industry's accelerating embrace of blockchain technology.

CEO Declares: The Future of Financial Services Is Being Completely Reinvented

“The future of financial services is being completely reinvented through innovations in crypto, digital assets, and blockchain more broadly,” said SoFi CEO Anthony Noto. He emphasized that the company is accelerating efforts to give members more choice and control—whether investing, sending money across borders, or planning for their future. “Crypto and blockchain innovations can and will be threaded through each of our businesses and capabilities, including buying, paying, saving, investing, borrowing, and protecting.”

SoFi reported record results for the first quarter of 2025: net revenue of $772 million and net income of $71 million. Membership increased 34% year-over-year to 10.9 million, and total assets reached $37.75 billion.

Blockchain Remittances: Disrupting Traditional Cross-Border Payments

The new international remittance service allows SoFi Money members to transmit funds globally via blockchain networks, converting U.S. dollars into local currencies for near-instant deposits, while providing full transparency on fees and exchange rates. The feature aims to disrupt the traditional cross-border payments market, which saw over $93 billion in U.S. remittances in 2023.

“We’re building a future where people can seamlessly send money around the world and have the tools and education to safely use crypto and digital assets to get their money right,” SoFi stated.

Return of Crypto Investing: BTC, ETH Lead the Way

Alongside the remittance service, SoFi will relaunch crypto investing, enabling members to buy, sell, and hold a selection of cryptocurrencies including bitcoin (BTC) and ethereum (ETH). “Marking our return to crypto investing, SoFi members later this year will be able to buy, sell, and hold a selection of cryptocurrencies like bitcoin and ethereum,” the company explained.

SoFi also outlined broader expansion plans: introducing stablecoins, staking, crypto-backed lending, and blockchain infrastructure offerings through its technology arm, Galileo.

Regulatory Edge: OCC Greenlights Crypto Custody

Following recent guidance from the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), SoFi Bank N.A. now holds federal clearance to provide crypto custody and stablecoin reserve services. This uniquely positions SoFi at the intersection of regulated banking and emerging blockchain innovation.

CEO Noto concluded: “We’re accelerating our efforts to give members more choice and more control, whether they’re investing, sending money across borders, or planning for their future. Crypto and blockchain innovations can and will be threaded through each of our businesses and capabilities, including buying, paying, saving, investing, borrowing, and protecting.”
