SOL Strategies said CEO Leah Wald will step down after overseeing the company’s strategic transition toward the Solana ecosystem. Michael Hubbard, the firm’s current Chief Strategy Officer, will take over as interim CEO. Wald joined the Toronto-based company in July 2024 and led a major repositioning of the business from Cypherpunk Holdings into a Solana-focused company.

Portfolio Shift Centered on Solana

During Wald’s tenure, SOL Strategies reshaped its balance sheet by divesting assets that no longer fit its new direction, including shares in Animoca Brands and Bitcoin holdings. The company redirected capital into SOL and the broader Solana ecosystem, marking a clear break from its previous identity and establishing a focused exposure to one blockchain network.

That strategy made SOL Strategies an early corporate backer of Solana, although later entrants have since surpassed the company in overall holdings. Even so, the firm still holds nearly 390,000 SOL, valued at around $89 million based on the figures cited in the report, keeping it relevant among publicly discussed Solana-focused entities.

Validator Business and U.S. Market Expansion

Beyond token exposure, SOL Strategies has also expanded its validator operations. The company’s validator business now accounts for more than $1 billion in staked assets, showing that its Solana strategy extends beyond treasury management into network infrastructure and staking-related activity.

The company recently received approval from Nasdaq to cross-list on U.S. exchanges, an important milestone in its capital markets strategy. The move could improve its visibility with U.S. investors as it continues building around Solana.

Next Move for Wald

Wald said she plans to pursue new opportunities in artificial intelligence and fintech after accomplishing her goals at the company. While her time as CEO was relatively brief, it coincided with a significant transformation in SOL Strategies’ brand, asset allocation, and strategic focus. Market attention will now turn to whether interim CEO Michael Hubbard can maintain that momentum.
