SANAE Token launched on Solana and experienced a rapid boom-and-bust cycle within hours. The token's market capitalization soared to $27.7 million at its peak, only to be slashed by nearly 78% to around $6 million as a sharp sell-off unfolded. The extreme volatility underscores the speculative nature of meme-focused cryptocurrencies.
According to data from on-chain tracking platform GMGN, the three largest wallets controlled 60% of the total token supply. Such concentrated ownership left prices highly vulnerable to the actions of a few major holders. As these large stakeholders began selling, downward pressure accelerated and retail buyers who entered late were left with heavy losses.
Wallet Concentration and Familiar Meme Coin Pattern
Solana's low fees and fast transaction confirmations have made it a hotbed for meme token launches. SANAE Token's trajectory followed a now-familiar arc: early participants accumulate large token allocations, market cap balloons, major holders dump, and prices crash. This pattern continues to expose retail participants to significant risk when they join viral crypto projects without timing the exit.
Observers also flagged that transfers and large inflows into prominent wallets were concentrated during the token's early hours, further amplifying price swings and intensifying market uncertainty.
Japan PM Distances Herself from the Meme Token
Adding another layer of controversy, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi issued a statement on the X platform, stating clearly that the token bearing her name was launched without her knowledge or consent. She emphasized that neither she nor her office had been notified or granted permission for the use of her identity.
The token was created under the NoBorder YouTube channel, led by Japanese entrepreneur Yuji Mizoguchi. Last month, NoBorder announced SANAE Token as part of its “Japan is Back” initiative, positioning it as a reward token linked to a broader project that integrates artificial intelligence and Web3 tools to support democratic processes. NoBorder claimed the name “sanae” was intended to symbolize democratically elected leadership. However, this explanation did little to curb public confusion and misunderstanding once trading began, triggering both regulatory and reputational concerns around the token's launch.
