Solana Name Service (SNS) has announced that new registrations for .sol domains will be temporarily halted starting from August 17. The pause is intended to allow the service to carry out an eligibility snapshot. According to the team, the snapshot will cover only those .sol domains that were already registered before the suspension. Once the snapshot is done, users will be able to check whether they qualify for a new round of entitlements or upgrades. Registration for .sns domains is expected to resume around the middle of September, with specific arrangements to be announced gradually. SNS also cautioned users to be alert against fake claim links, reiterating that it will never ask anyone to sign any transaction or pay any fee in order to claim new .sol domains. The team advised users to only rely on official communications for further updates about the snapshot and the resumption of registrations.

Solana Name Service (SNS) is putting a stop to new registrations for .sol domains on August 17 so it can take an eligibility snapshot. Only .sol domains registered before that date will make it into the snapshot.

After the snapshot is done, users will be able to check whether they qualify for a new round of entitlements or an upgrade. Registration for .sns domains is set to reopen in mid-September. More details, the team said, will come later.

SNS also told users to stay sharp around fake claim links. Simple warning. The team said no one will be asked to sign transactions or pay any fee to claim new .sol domains.
