Sonic Labs CEO Matt Visser said the company has completed its business handover and is moving into a new phase that includes internal restructuring and a separate commercialization track built around its public blockchain technology. He also said Sonic V2.2 went live today with bundled transactions, an expanded transaction guarantee mechanism, a higher smart contract limit, and a new execution engine. On strategy, Visser said the company remains focused on building its Layer 1 network, driving on-chain financial activity, and commercializing core infrastructure. SonicVM and SonicDB will be licensed externally, with the business model positioned as not dependent on crypto market cycles. He listed four commercial lines: payments and FX rails, AI, RWA and tokenization, and prediction market infrastructure, while saying perpetual contracts will no longer be pursued as a standalone line. On token policy, Visser said there will be no new discretionary minting of S going forward, with all manual issuance canceled and only automatic emissions for validator payments retained. He added that Sonic Labs has engaged an independent third party to audit S supply and related reporting, with results expected in the coming weeks.

Sonic Labs CEO Matt Visser said the company has completed its business handover and will now move into departmental restructuring, including a separate business unit focused on commercializing technology built around its public blockchain.

He also said Sonic V2.2 went live today, adding bundled transactions, an expanded transaction guarantee mechanism, a higher smart contract limit, and a new execution engine.

Strategy stays centered on the Layer 1 and infrastructure licensing

Visser said the company’s core strategy remains building its Layer 1, driving on-chain financial activity, and commercializing the underlying technology. He added that SonicVM and SonicDB can be licensed to external parties and are not tied to crypto market cycles.

He outlined four business lines: payments and foreign exchange rails, AI, real-world assets and tokenization, and prediction market infrastructure. Perpetual contracts will no longer be advanced as a standalone initiative.

S token policy shifts away from manual issuance

On the S token, Visser said there will be no additional minting in the future through manual decisions. All discretionary issuance will be canceled, with only automatic emissions used to pay validators remaining in place.

Sonic Labs has also engaged an independent third party to audit S supply and related reporting. The report is expected within the next few weeks.
