Sonic SVM has announced a $1 million hackathon ahead of its mainnet debut, positioning the event as a catalyst for native decentralized application development on Solana. Organized in New York, the competition runs from Feb. 17 to March 14, 2025, while the project’s mainnet is scheduled to go live on Feb. 27, 2025.
Four tracks target broad onchain experimentation
The hackathon invites builders to create dapps across a range of categories, with a particular focus on gaming, decentralized finance, and artificial intelligence. According to the announcement, projects will be assessed not only for technical sophistication but also for their practical relevance, signaling an effort to encourage applications that can move beyond prototypes.
Participants can choose from four designated tracks: capital-markets-oriented content creation, DeFi products such as asset launchpads and trading bots, AI tools and agent aggregators, and gaming formats spanning mini-games, social experiences, and high-ARPU applications. Sonic SVM said the structure is intended to support a broad mix of onchain innovation on its chain extension.
Judging to focus on merit and real-world viability
A panel of judges will review submissions based on criteria including technical complexity, market potential, and operational feasibility. Organizers also said teams will receive detailed feedback, giving participants a chance to refine their products during or after the event. The judging framework, according to the announcement, is designed to remain transparent and merit-based across all entries.
Teams are also expected to share progress publicly on social media, a requirement that could help raise awareness of individual projects while expanding the overall reach of the hackathon.
Mainnet launch provides the backdrop
The event arrives just ahead of Sonic SVM’s upcoming mainnet rollout, which is described as a dedicated layer for high-performance decentralized applications on Solana. Organizers see the hackathon as a way to showcase the network’s scalability and encourage developers to test new onchain use cases across multiple sectors. If successful, the initiative could help Sonic SVM enter mainnet with an early pipeline of native applications already in development.
