SSV Network has launched the SSV Staking Testnet, with the SSV DAO opening an accompanying incentivized cSSV Alpha testers program for Ethereum participants worldwide. The public test phase gives users early access to cSSV, the new staking token tied to SSV’s next protocol upgrade, before the system reaches mainnet. Selected participants will be eligible to receive a share of a $5,000 prize pool.
cSSV enters public testing before mainnet
According to the announcement, SSV Staking is the network’s next major protocol evolution. It introduces ETH-native settlement, support for post-Pectra validators, and oracle-backed accounting. The new token, cSSV, represents a user’s staked SSV position on a 1:1 basis and is designed to function as the interface for governance, oracle selection, and a pro-rata claim on network fees. It is also intended for use in DeFi.
The testnet marks the first end-to-end public rollout of this upgraded staking architecture. Instead of previewing isolated components, users can interact with the full lifecycle of the system before the mainnet release.
Participants must perform on-chain tasks and submit feedback
The SSV DAO said the Alpha testers program is built around actionable and structured feedback. Participants are expected to complete specific on-chain interactions inside the testnet environment and submit feedback in a structured format. The stated goal is to help users become familiar with the staking flow before launch while turning test results into practical input for the release process.
Elad Gafni of the SSV Foundation said the team wants the public to experience what the future of the SSV token will look like, stress-test the system, and help shape a mainnet-quality upgrade through direct feedback.
Design focuses on validator accounting after Pectra
SSV Network said that after Ethereum moved to post-Pectra validator balances, accurate on-chain accounting for the network requires tracking effective balances that exist on the consensus layer. To address that, the protocol design adds an oracle system that tracks those balances onchain. Its staking and delegation model is meant to align long-term participants with that function.
The project said staking SSV allows participants to contribute directly to securing a core function of the SSV Network while also supporting Ethereum’s broader validator ecosystem. It also described the mechanism as a way to access ETH-denominated rewards beyond traditional Proof-of-Stake participation.
Testnet tokens carry no monetary value
The announcement also states that the testnet and reward program are part of an ongoing process, and that SSV Staking remains subject to SSV DAO governance and community feedback. It explicitly notes that testnet tokens have no monetary value.
SSV Network says it provides infrastructure for Ethereum validators using Distributed Validator Technology, or DVT, with the goal of improving fault tolerance, decentralization, and security. The release says the network currently secures about 6.3 million ETH across nearly 2,000 globally distributed node operators.
