The dollar-pegged cryptocurrency market has breached the $317 billion threshold, reaching a total market capitalization of $317.134 billion as of Saturday, April 4, 2026, according to data compiled by DeFiLlama. The sector recorded net inflows of $1.242 billion over the past seven days, underscoring continued demand for stable digital dollars.
USDS Emerges as Weekly Standout; Tether Dominates
Among the top ten stablecoins by market cap, Sky's USDS posted the largest weekly gain, climbing 9.57% to a market cap of $8.924 billion. The asset added over $779 million in inflows this week, solidifying its position as the third-largest stablecoin. Ethena's yield-bearing USDe remained at $5.888 billion, edging down 0.26% week-over-week, while Sky's DAI closed the top five at $4.691 billion, up 2.99%.
Tether (USDT) continues to dominate with a market cap of $184.076 billion, representing 58.04% of the total stablecoin market. USDT saw a modest 0.03% weekly increase. In a notable development, Tether announced plans to undergo a full financial audit, which could enhance transparency and trust among users and regulators. Circle's USDC, the second-largest stablecoin, experienced a 0.39% decline to $77.42 billion, translating to net outflows of more than $304 million.
The top five stablecoins—USDT, USDC, USDS, USDe, and DAI—collectively account for approximately 87.1% of the total $317.134 billion market, highlighting the sector's concentration among a few major issuers.
On-Chain Activity and Market Context
Stablecoins processed roughly $1.96 trillion in gross transfer volume last week, with about $508 billion attributed to authentic settlement volume, as reported by Crystalintelligence. This metric filters out wash trading, intra-wallet transfers, and other non-economic activity, offering a clearer view of real-world usage in payments, DeFi, and remittances.
Meanwhile, Bitcoin traded around $67,109 on April 4, with a market cap of $1.32 trillion, consolidating under bearish pressure. The persistent inflows into stablecoins suggest that some market participants are rotating capital into safer dollar-pegged assets, potentially positioning for future buying opportunities.
Outlook and Risks
The stablecoin market continues to expand steadily, driven by dominant incumbents and emerging competitors like USDS. Tether's planned audit could set a new standard for transparency across the industry. However, regulatory challenges in major jurisdictions such as the U.S. and the EU remain key risks. Investors should monitor reserve attestations and compliance developments closely.
