Starknet said in a post on X that account abstraction allows an account to change its validation logic without changing its address, balance, or transaction history, making it possible to move to post-quantum signature schemes without modifying the protocol. The team also said Starknet, as an Ethereum layer-2 network, still relies on Ethereum and elliptic curve cryptography for settlement, data availability, and cross-chain bridges. It added that research into an independent layer 1 could let the network set its own cryptographic standards and migration timeline. Starknet said that idea remains in the research stage, that STRK remains the native token, and that there are no plans to issue a new token. Any decision to migrate to an L1 would require a binding governance vote.

The project said that, as an Ethereum layer 2, its settlement, data publication, and cross-chain bridges still depend on Ethereum and elliptic curve cryptography. Starknet added that research into an independent layer 1 could allow it to set its own cryptographic scheme and migration timeline.

It also said an independent L1 remains a research direction for now. STRK remains the native token, and there are currently no plans to issue a new token. Any decision to migrate to an L1 would need to go through a binding governance vote.
