Japanese blockchain infrastructure firm Startale Group announced on March 26, 2026, the closing of its Series A funding round, securing $50 million from SBI Group, Inc. to bring the total round to $63 million. This final close follows an initial $13 million investment from Sony Innovation Fund in January 2026, aimed at bolstering onchain infrastructure for finance and entertainment.

Funding Details and Strategic Vision

The investment led by SBI Group marks a critical milestone in Startale's mission to accelerate real-world asset tokenization. Proceeds will primarily support two flagship products: Strium, a blockchain dedicated to tokenized securities, and JPYSC, a trust bank-backed Japanese yen stablecoin co-developed through a 2025 joint venture with SBI Holdings. JPYSC is targeting a second-quarter 2026 launch under Japan's evolving regulatory framework for stablecoins.

“Through the deep collaboration with SBI, we will accelerate the adoption of tokenised stocks, centered on Japanese equities and JPY stablecoin, this year,” said Sota Watanabe, CEO of Startale Group.

Serving 80 Million Users: Integration with SBI Ecosystem

Startale plans to leverage SBI's extensive customer base, aiming to serve over 80 million users within the SBI ecosystem. Its flagship Superapp will integrate fiat-to-crypto on-ramps, enabling consumers to seamlessly invest in tokenized securities and use stablecoins. This move lowers barriers between traditional finance and digital assets, positioning Japan as a hub for blockchain-driven capital markets in Asia.

Expanding Settlement Framework for Asian Capital Markets

Beyond consumer applications, Startale Group is scaling its settlement framework to support onchain capital markets across Asia. The framework will integrate Ethereum Layer 2 networks to provide fiat-to-crypto liquidity channels for institutional yield distribution. This vertical integration is expected to significantly improve the efficiency of traditional securities settlement and drive real-world asset (RWA) adoption.

With regulatory backing from Japanese authorities, JPYSC is set to become the first trust bank-backed yen stablecoin in Japan, offering a compliant and stable digital fiat alternative for institutions and retail users. Startale's dual focus on tokenized securities and stablecoins is attracting growing interest from Asian institutional partners.
