Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) disclosed a fresh Bitcoin purchase in an SEC filing covering April 1 to April 5, 2026, acquiring 4,871 BTC for $329.9 million at an average price of $67,718 per coin. The move lifts its total holdings to 766,970 BTC, Executive Chairman Michael Saylor said.
Brief pause followed by renewed buying
The purchase broke a one-week pause between March 23 and March 29, which ended a 13-week buying streak. In the prior transaction, Strategy bought 1,031 BTC for about $77 million. Saylor signaled the return with a post reading “₿ack to Work.”
Cost basis and funding strategy
Strategy has spent roughly $58.02 billion on Bitcoin, with an average cost basis of $75,644 per coin. To fund this purchase, the company sold millions of STRC preferred shares between March 30 and April 5, limiting common stock dilution. Its total capital-raising capacity has expanded to about $44 billion.
Q1 buying spree dwarfs peers
First-quarter acquisitions reached 89,602 BTC, worth roughly $7.25 billion — about 40% of total Bitcoin purchases in 2025. By contrast, other public firms bought around 1,000 BTC in the same period. Strategy reaffirmed its target of 1 million BTC.
$14.46B unrealized loss doesn't deter Saylor
The filing also reported a $14.46 billion unrealized loss for the quarter. Despite this, Saylor continues to describe Bitcoin as “digital capital” and shows no sign of slowing down. Earlier in March, the company bought over 45,000 BTC in a single week.
