The Sui blockchain suffered a network stall on May 28, halting block production on its mainnet. The SUI token dropped roughly 8% as the disruption hit.

Details of the May 28 Network Stall

Block explorers showed no new checkpoints for nearly an hour, halting transaction finality across decentralized apps. The core team confirmed the stall, with engineers identifying the issue within about 20 minutes and deploying a fix. Transactions were paused while user funds remained safe.

The team stated: “Sui Mainnet is currently experiencing a network stall. The Sui Core team is actively working on a solution. Be aware that transactions may be paused at this time.”

Second Major Outage in Five Months

This incident follows a six-hour consensus outage in January, which crypto.news reported was traced to a validator consensus bug. In November 2024, a two-hour outage marked the network’s first major disruption since its 2023 launch.

Sui's object-centric design and parallel execution deliver high theoretical throughput, but repeated stalls highlight reliability questions around validator coordination in edge cases.

SUI Price Pressure and Ecosystem Events

SUI was already trading near multi-month lows before the latest stall, after the network absorbed a $223 million hack on Cetus Protocol last year. The fresh outage accelerated the decline, pushing SUI down 8% in 24 hours.

A detailed post-mortem is expected, outlining root cause and preventive measures, as Sui issued after previous incidents.
