Taiwan Mobile has increased its holding in 91APP to 7.5 million shares, bringing its ownership stake to 6.52%. The move followed a board resolution on March 13 approving a block trade purchase of up to 5 million common shares, with pricing authorized within a 10% range above or below the previous day’s closing price.
Planned 5 million-share purchase closed at 4.97 million
According to the company’s disclosure, the acquisition was structured as a block trade rather than gradual buying in the open market. Taiwan Mobile did not disclose the final transaction value at the time of the initial announcement, saying that figure would be released after completion. By March 16, the deal had been completed, with the final number of shares acquired coming in at 4,970,000.
Before this purchase, Taiwan Mobile was already a shareholder in 91APP. After the additional acquisition, its total holdings reached 7,500,000 shares. Earlier material referenced a potential post-deal stake of 6.55%, but the completed transaction lifted the final holding to 6.52%, based on the disclosed result on March 16.
10% pricing flexibility points to a strategic transaction
Taiwan Mobile said the purpose of the securities purchase was to meet “the needs of the company’s strategic development”. The structure of the authorization is notable: the board allowed execution within a 10% band around the prior closing price, giving the company room to complete the purchase quickly instead of accumulating shares slowly through regular market trading.
Using a block trade also allowed Taiwan Mobile to build a larger position in a shorter period while limiting the effect of repeated market purchases on public trading.
Retail SaaS remains a focus
91APP is known for omnichannel retail SaaS services, including D2C and OMO solutions. Taiwan Mobile has been pushing its shift toward a technology-focused telecom model, while its parent group also owns momo, a major e-commerce platform. The added investment in 91APP is being watched as part of that broader retail technology push.
The company has not disclosed more detailed cooperation plans or financial targets tied to the investment. Still, the higher stake has brought new attention to how Taiwan Mobile and 91APP may deepen links across retail services and the wider digital ecosystem.
