TBC Georgia has rolled out cryptocurrency trading inside its digital banking app through a partnership with Bybit, making it one of the first major banks in the region to bring direct crypto access into mainstream retail banking. Customers can now trade digital assets from the bank’s existing mobile application alongside other financial and investment services.

The launch comes after strong momentum in the bank’s retail investment business. TBC Georgia said monthly active users on its retail investment platform have risen 42% since the start of 2026. That growth gives context to the move: the bank is expanding investment features inside a broader digital product stack rather than treating crypto as a standalone add-on.

Crypto Trading Is Built Into the Existing Banking App

TBC Georgia described the rollout as a strategic extension of its digital investment offering. According to the bank, users can access crypto trading directly within the app they already use, without moving to a separate platform. The product also includes a one-click onboarding process, which the company said is unique in the Georgian market.

George Tkhelidze, CEO of TBC Georgia, said the bank has a long record of moving early on digital products in the country, including online banking and mobile banking. He said the bank is now extending that investment offering into cryptocurrency as digital assets become more integrated with the global financial system. In his description, the move also strengthens TBC Georgia’s retail proposition by allowing customers to manage a wider set of financial needs through one mobile app.

Bank-Exchange Partnerships Are Becoming a Common Model

The structure of the launch is as notable as the product itself. Instead of building the full crypto trading stack internally, TBC Georgia partnered with Bybit, one of the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchanges. This setup reflects a wider pattern in the market, where banks keep the customer relationship inside their own apps while relying on specialist crypto firms for exchange functionality.

That shift shows how digital asset services are moving from standalone exchanges into regulated financial environments. Over the past few years, banks around the world have gone from avoiding crypto to testing custody, tokenization, stablecoins, and retail access. Customer demand and competition from fintech firms have pushed many institutions to revisit their stance.

Retail Banking Competition Is Moving Inside the App

TBC Georgia said the crypto launch is meant to create more touchpoints inside the app and lift customer engagement and loyalty. Banks are now competing less on branch reach alone and more on app usage, product depth, and cross-service adoption. Recurring engagement inside a digital ecosystem is becoming a central measure of retail banking performance.

The timing also follows external recognition for the bank. In April 2026, TBC Georgia said it was named the Most Innovative Bank in Central and Eastern Europe by Global Finance. The broader regional backdrop matters too: Georgia has built a reputation as an active digital financial market, and TBC Bank already operates one of the region’s largest digital banking ecosystems. Its parent, TBC Bank Group, also controls TBC Uzbekistan, a major digital banking platform in Central Asia.

At the retail level, regulated banks entering crypto may change how users access the market. Consumers who have stayed away from standalone exchanges because of security concerns or unfamiliar onboarding may be more willing to buy digital assets through a banking app they already use. For banks like TBC Georgia, crypto access is turning into one layer within a unified financial environment that includes payments, investing, savings, and newer asset classes.
