Tether has made a strategic investment in fintech company Axiym, aiming to push USDT deeper into regulated global payment networks. Announced on March 5, the deal is centered on cross-border payments, treasury management, and settlement infrastructure rather than crypto trading use cases.

Investment targets treasury and settlement rails

Axiym is building a distributed global treasury and settlement system designed for regulated payment networks. According to Tether, the investment is part of a broader effort to expand financial access worldwide. The idea is straightforward: let businesses and financial institutions use USDT inside existing payment systems, cutting down on onboarding friction and improving the movement of funds across borders.

Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino said the partnership is meant to remove liquidity and technical barriers that have limited stablecoin adoption in payment settings. The message is clear. Tether wants USDT to move beyond exchange-based usage and into systems already used by payment providers and financial firms.

USDT integration inside compliant payment infrastructure

A central part of the partnership is the direct integration of USDT into regulated payment infrastructure instead of keeping it separate from traditional finance. Through Axiym’s payment and settlement platform, payment institutions can access and use USDT within their existing treasury setup, without going through crypto exchanges or building separate settlement workflows from scratch.

Based on the announcement, that structure is meant to deliver three practical gains: simpler cross-border payment flows, lower liquidity management costs, and faster settlement with better capital efficiency. Axiym also offers a “Pay Now, Settle Later (PNSL)” model, allowing payments to be completed before final settlement, which is designed to improve working capital management for enterprises.

Network already spans 140 countries and 70 currencies

Axiym’s infrastructure currently supports payment and settlement activity across 140 countries and 70 currencies. Its client base includes payment processors, global payment aggregators, and cross-border payment service providers. By combining payment execution with settlement functions, the platform is built to make global fund flows closer to real time while improving transaction predictability.

If USDT gains wider use inside that network, stablecoins could take on a more direct role in international payments infrastructure rather than remaining mostly tools for crypto-native transfers. For Tether, the investment also marks a broader expansion of where USDT is expected to operate: not just in digital asset markets, but in mainstream financial and payment environments.

Tether signals continued focus on regulated adoption

Tether said it plans to keep working with financial institutions and fintech companies to support digital asset adoption under compliant frameworks and expand access to the international financial system for businesses and individuals. In this case, the direction is plain: the next phase of USDT growth is being aimed at payment networks, not only trading venues.
