Tether has announced a strategic investment in LayerZero Labs, tying the move to the growth of cross-chain digital asset infrastructure. The companies said the relationship builds on USDt0, a stablecoin deployment that uses LayerZero technology to move across multiple blockchains as one asset rather than splitting liquidity across separate versions.
USDt0 runs across chains without fragmenting liquidity
LayerZero Labs develops interoperability infrastructure for moving digital assets between blockchains. Tether said the system is already being used in production-grade applications. Everdawn Labs previously used LayerZero’s technology to launch USDt0 and XAUt0, both of which rely on the Omnichain Fungible Token standard. In Tether’s description, that setup lets a token keep a unified form across networks instead of becoming isolated pools of liquidity on each chain.
More than $70 billion moved in under a year
Since launch, USDt0 has processed more than $70 billion in cross-chain value transfers in less than 12 months. Tether stressed that this volume came under live market conditions, not in testing environments. That point matters: the system was not only demonstrated, it was used at scale in active markets.
LayerZero infrastructure will also connect with Tether’s WDK
The investment also links LayerZero with Tether’s Wallet Development Kit, or WDK. According to Tether, combining the two supports payment, settlement, and custody workflows tied to real-world digital asset usage. The company also said the setup can support agentic finance, where AI agents control wallets and execute transactions on their own using stablecoins and other digital assets at scale.
Executives point to utility and existing collaboration
Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino said the company invests in infrastructure that is already delivering utility. He said LayerZero enables real-time asset transfers across transport layers and ledgers and supports large-scale automated payments. LayerZero Labs CEO Bryan Pellegrino said USDt0 helped validate the technology by showing cross-chain value movement at scale, adding that Tether’s investment strengthens an existing partnership.
No financial terms were disclosed. Both companies said they will keep working on interoperability infrastructure that supports USDt0 and related assets.
