Thailand's Department of Special Investigation (DSI) conducted a major enforcement action on June 16, raiding 24 locations across Bangkok, Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan, and Samut Sakhon. The operation targeted an alleged unauthorized forex investment network that had caused widespread investor losses. Brands involved included QRS Global, HFM GOFX, and Etherwealth.

$2 Million Cash, Luxury Cars, and Crypto Wallets Seized

Authorities searched 15 companies and nine residential properties, seizing an extensive asset list: 5 luxury cars, 15 passenger vehicles, 4 motorcycles, 65.27 million baht in cash (over $2 million), gold bars and ornaments, diamond and gold jewelry, more than 40 luxury handbags, 113 watches, 12 kg of silver bars, foreign currency worth 600,000 baht, 55 computers, 30 mobile phones, 2 tablets, and 4 cryptocurrency hardware wallets believed to contain Bitcoin and USDT. Officials did not disclose the crypto wallets' value.

How the Scheme Operated: Offshore Brokers and Introducing Broker Model

Investigators described a structure where introducing brokers (IBs) earned rebates based on client trading volume—the more trades, the higher their compensation. This incentivized frequent trading regardless of investor profitability. The network promoted itself via social media, seminars, and lifestyle marketing, showcasing luxury trips, sports cars, and trading profits. Initially investors could withdraw funds, but later faced additional conditions, required deposits, course purchases, or fees before withdrawals. Brokers were registered in offshore jurisdictions like Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Seychelles, and the Cayman Islands, complicating recovery efforts.

Evidence of Trading System Manipulation

DSI reported signs of possible trading system interference: price adjustments, execution delays, order locking, and disruptions. Technical specialists are conducting forensic examinations to determine if these constituted intentional manipulation to disadvantage clients. The investigation into these allegations is ongoing, with no formal charges yet.

Public Figures Involved, Multiple Criminal Charges Possible

The network had links to public figures, influencers, entertainers, and payment processing companies. DSI said these individuals may have participated in promoting investments, establishing companies, or supporting operations. Potential charges include violations of the Fraudulent Public Lending Act, Securities and Exchange Act, Derivatives Trading Act, Computer Crime Act, and Criminal Code provisions on public fraud. Authorities are tracing money flows between brokers, IBs, payment processors, and offshore entities.

Warning to Investors

Thai authorities urged investors to verify regulatory licenses before depositing funds, and to be wary of promotions via social media or lifestyle marketing. Victims can contact the DSI's Technology and Information Crime Division.
