The Sandbox has opened the claims process for users affected by the Aug. 22 SAND cross-chain contract exploit on Base and BNB Smart Chain. According to the official announcement, eligible users who held bridged SAND on the affected networks before the incident can receive full compensation on a 1:1 basis in Ethereum-based SAND. Eligibility is determined solely by on-chain balance snapshots taken before the contract was compromised, and is not affected by any trading, transfers, or position changes made after the incident. The project said the Base snapshot corresponds to block 50283188 at 23:42:03 UTC on Aug. 21, 2026, while the BNB Smart Chain snapshot corresponds to block 117322025 at 11:42:44 UTC on Aug. 21, 2026. Users who held the affected SAND through centralized exchanges do not need to take any action, as The Sandbox is coordinating compensation with those platforms. Users who held tokens in self-custody wallets must submit claims themselves. The claim window runs from Sept. 8 to Sept. 22 at 24:00 UTC+8. To claim, users only need to send one transaction from the original wallet recorded in the snapshot, with no token approval, no off-chain signature, and no transfer to any address required.

According to an official announcement cited by BlockBeats on Sept. 8, The Sandbox has formally opened claims for SAND compensation.

The program covers users affected by the Aug. 22 exploit involving the SAND cross-chain contract on Base and BNB Smart Chain (BSC). Users who held bridged SAND on the affected networks before the incident are eligible for full compensation on a 1:1 basis in Ethereum-based SAND.

Eligibility tied to pre-incident on-chain snapshots

The Sandbox said eligibility is determined by on-chain balances recorded before the contract was hijacked. Any trading, transfers, or holdings changes made after the incident do not affect claim eligibility.

For Base, the snapshot corresponds to block 50283188 at 23:42:03 UTC on Aug. 21, 2026. For BSC, the snapshot corresponds to block 117322025 at 11:42:44 UTC on Aug. 21, 2026.

Exchange users do not need to act

Users who held SAND on Base or BSC through centralized trading platforms do not need to take any action. The Sandbox said it is coordinating compensation with the relevant exchanges.

Users who held the tokens in personal wallets must submit claims on their own.

Claim window and process

The claim period runs from Sept. 8 to Sept. 22 at 24:00 (UTC+8).

To complete the claim, the original wallet that held SAND at the time of the snapshot only needs to send one transaction. No token approval is required, no off-chain message needs to be signed, and no transfer to any address is needed.
