Federal prosecutors in Connecticut have charged Sedric Louis, John Davis and Martel Williams with conspiracy to interfere with commerce by robbery, alleging they plotted to break into a home and force the transfer of cryptocurrency linked to a bitcoin theft valued at hundreds of millions of dollars. Each faces up to 20 years in prison. The three men from St. Louis traveled to Connecticut in August 2024, rented a vehicle and obtained air guns and walkie-talkies. They watched the target and his parents for two days, then abandoned the plan out of fear that home security cameras would identify them. A separate group from Florida later executed the same scheme and six people were arrested on Aug. 25 in connection with a carjacking involving a Lamborghini Urus. Louis and Davis have been held since June 25 and pleaded not guilty on July 30. Williams pleaded not guilty on July 17 and was granted bail. Prosecutors said the intended victims were parents of a person linked to the bitcoin theft. The indictment is not proof of guilt.

Federal prosecutors in Connecticut said three St. Louis men are facing up to 20 years in prison over an alleged scheme to storm into a home and force victims to transfer cryptocurrency tied to a bitcoin theft worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

Sedric Louis, John Davis and Martel Williams were charged with conspiracy to interfere with commerce by robbery. According to the indictment, the trio traveled to Connecticut between Aug. 21 and 24, 2024, rented a car and prepared air guns, walkie-talkies and other gear. They surveilled the target and his parents for two days before backing out over concerns the home's security cameras would record them.

A separate group from Florida later carried out the same plan and was arrested on Aug. 25 after six people were taken into custody in connection with a stolen Lamborghini Urus. Louis and Davis have been detained since June 25 and pleaded not guilty in Bridgeport federal court on July 30. Williams entered the same plea on July 17 and was released on bail. Prosecutors said the intended kidnap victims were parents of an individual involved in the bitcoin theft. The indictment is not evidence of guilt.
