Threshold Network has launched Verifiable Bitcoin Accounts, a Bitcoin Script and PSBT-based framework for institutions seeking onchain Bitcoin deployment while keeping existing custody arrangements and verifiable settlement paths.

Threshold Network has introduced Verifiable Bitcoin Accounts (VBA), a framework for institutional Bitcoin deployment built on Bitcoin Script and PSBTs, or Partially Signed Bitcoin Transactions. The company said the product extends signer infrastructure that has interacted with Bitcoin for six years, processed more than $5 billion in cumulative volume, and recorded zero losses.

The design centers on defining spending paths, signer combinations, timelocks, and recovery routes at the moment an account is created. That setup is meant to let allocators deploy Bitcoin into onchain strategies while keeping segregated custody workflows intact and preserving settlement paths that can be independently verified. The key point is simple: the BTC stays within the holder’s existing custody arrangement.

Existing custody stays in place while capital remains segregated

According to Threshold, VBA works with qualified custodians such as Anchorage and Fireblocks Trust, as well as MPC-based custody networks and self-custody setups. The structure does not require title transfer outside the user’s current custody relationship. Capital is held in a segregated account rather than pooled, and the position remains identifiable at all times. In practice, the custody framework already used by an allocator continues to govern each deployed position.

That structure targets a specific institutional requirement. For Bitcoin lending at scale onchain, collateral has to resolve predictably during liquidation, maturity, and redemption. Threshold’s pitch is that usability depends less on broad assurances and more on settlement routes that are fixed in advance and can be checked independently.

Bitcoin Script and PSBTs define what can happen to the funds

Threshold said PSBTs form the base layer of every VBA account. Spending conditions, recovery paths, and timelocks are written directly into Bitcoin Script and enforced through the same consensus system that secures the Bitcoin network. Every permitted outcome is pre-defined before capital is deployed, and each state can be verified onchain by any full node.

The company also said no single party can exercise unilateral control over deployed capital during the term of an agreement. That applies to the custodian, Threshold, and the depositor alike. Any movement of funds requires the predefined combination of parties assigned to that position. If the signer network becomes unavailable, the depositor can recover the BTC after a defined timelock without counterparty cooperation, with the Bitcoin UTXO serving as the system of record.

Product targets lending demand as institutions move onchain

Threshold cited projections that institutional Bitcoin lending is moving toward $90 billion by the end of 2026. It also pointed to stablecoin growth, noting that the sector reached $308 billion in early 2026 and is on track to exceed $1 trillion. In that setting, the company is positioning VBA as a way to convert existing custody setups into institutional-grade lending infrastructure rather than forcing firms into a proprietary stack.

Deployment is limited to risk-assessed and pre-approved onchain lending and yield venues. The release named Aave, Morpho, Curve, and Yield Basis as examples. Threshold said every movement of capital is constrained, auditable, and aligned with institutional compliance requirements.

A co-founder of Threshold Network said institutions do not need added layers of trust; they need systems where outcomes are defined, enforceable, and verifiable from the start. In the company’s view, reducing reliance on counterparties brings Bitcoin onchain deployment closer to the standards institutional capital requires.

Verifiable Bitcoin Accounts are now available to qualified institutional participants. Threshold said interested firms can contact its team through the company website to discuss integration and deployment into approved onchain venues.
