Ticketmaster Entertainment, Inc. has announced that event organizers can now mint non-fungible token (NFT) tickets using the Flow blockchain, marking a major strategic pivot in its blockchain ticketing roadmap. According to a report by SportsBusinessJournal on August 31, 2022, the ticketing giant has already minted over 5 million NFTs on the Flow network, working with clients such as The Black Crowes, the Apollo Theater, and Gavin DeGraw.

From Polygon to Flow: A Strategic Shift

In November 2021, Ticketmaster initially disclosed its partnership with Polygon for NFT ticketing. However, by February 2022, during Super Bowl LVI, the world's largest ticket marketplace switched to Flow, the blockchain developed by Dapper Labs. The change was driven by Flow's proven capacity for high-volume NFT minting and its established relationships with major sports leagues.

Flow's Expanding NFT Ecosystem

Flow already powers several high-profile NFT projects, including "NFL All Day," "NBA Top Shot," and "UFC Strike." During the 2022 NFL season, attendees from over 100 games received Flow-issued NFT tickets. According to data from CryptoSlam, Flow ranks fourth in all-time NFT sales among 19 blockchains, with a total volume of approximately $1.098 billion. Over the past 30 days, Flow sits in fifth place, just behind Immutable X, which saw a 417% surge in monthly sales.

Empowering Event Organizers and Enhancing Fan Experiences

Flow confirmed the Ticketmaster partnership via a tweet on Wednesday, stating: "Big news for live event fans. Ticketmaster event organizers now can offer digital keepsakes, minted on Flow. Activate access to experiences and rewards." The company elaborated that Ticketmaster is "empowering event organizers to enhance live experiences for fans — Share your experiences online, never lose that ticket from the show you loved, new ways to reward communities, enjoy VIP experiences."

This integration allows organizers to mint NFTs before, during, or after events, representing tickets, memorabilia, VIP access, and community rewards. Flow's proof-of-stake consensus mechanism ensures low fees, high throughput, and environmental sustainability, making it an attractive option for mass-market adoption.

While Ticketmaster has not confirmed a full rollout across all events, the 5 million minted NFTs and partnerships with iconic venues and artists demonstrate the growing acceptance of blockchain-based ticketing solutions.
