Odaily, citing Decrypt, reported that trading activity for tokenized Pokémon cards has been rising quickly on crypto platforms. These products map physical trading cards into NFTs or digital certificates, creating an on-chain format that resembles the experience of opening boxes or drawing cards.
May sales reached about $230 million across seven blockchains
According to data disclosed by Messari, tokenized Pokémon card sales on seven blockchains, including Solana, Polygon, Base and BNB, reached approximately $230 million in May. The figure was about 10 times higher than one year earlier, reflecting a sharp increase in trading volume across multiple blockchain networks.
The report also noted that the global trading card market reached $15.8 billion in 2024 and is expected to grow to $23.5 billion by 2030. By comparison, the total NFT market capitalization is currently about $2.4 billion. The data was presented as an indication that on-chain collectibles remain in an early stage of penetration relative to the traditional trading card market.
