BitMine Immersion Technologies drew immediate market attention after Chairman Tom Lee said the company will seek approval to increase authorized shares from 500 million to 50 billion. The announcement quickly fed into trading activity, sending the stock up 14% to $30.93 by 2:48 p.m. ET.
BitMine says the proposal is about flexibility, not instant dilution
Lee said the plan is not designed to dilute shareholders right away. He framed it as a way to preserve room for future capital markets actions and possible acquisitions. The company’s position is that rapid valuation expansion can create structural constraints, and a much larger authorization would leave management with more options if the stock moves sharply higher. The market reacted fast. The rationale, though, was presented as long-term balance-sheet and equity planning.
Lee also pointed to the company’s close trading relationship with Ethereum. In his view, if ether were to reach $22,000, BitMine shares could approach $500. If ether climbed to $62,500, he said the stock could move toward $1,500. Management added that many investors prefer the shares closer to $25, which is why a larger share authorization is being positioned as protection against extreme price escalation rather than a signal of immediate issuance.
Large ether holdings tie equity valuation closely to crypto prices
BitMine stands out among crypto-linked public companies because it operates what the company describes as the largest Ethereum digital asset treasury in public markets. It controls about 3.41% of Ethereum’s circulating supply, a scale that leaves its equity valuation tightly connected to moves in ETH. That connection is central to how investors are reading the proposal.
Last week, the Nasdaq-listed company disclosed the purchase of 44,463 ETH, bringing total holdings to 4,110,525 ETH. Against that backdrop, the stock’s rally suggested investors were willing to accept a much larger share authorization as part of management’s broader planning around crypto-driven valuation swings.
Affordability, liquidity, and deal capacity are central to the plan
The proposal also shows how companies with large digital asset treasuries are adapting corporate finance tools to crypto volatility. For firms whose valuations can move with token prices, authorized share capacity affects more than issuance. It can support liquidity management, stock affordability, and future stock splits without forcing the company into operational constraints.
Lee said elevated share prices can reduce retail participation and weaken daily trading volumes, making accessibility a key issue for the company. A larger authorization would also give BitMine more flexibility if acquisition opportunities emerge. Management described the move as preparation, not urgency. In BitMine’s case, equity structure and treasury strategy are now being treated as closely linked parts of the same market story.
