According to ChainCatcher, Telegram founder Pavel Durov announced via his personal channel that the TON ecosystem is launching a brand upgrade, officially renaming its native token from TON to Gram. The team stated that "Gram" was the original name for the native currency in TON's initial whitepaper, and the change aims to return to the project's roots and kick off a new phase of ecosystem development.
This move represents the fourth step in TON's "Make TON Great Again" seven-step strategy. By restoring the whitepaper's original naming, the project seeks to reconnect with early community vision and lay the groundwork for further ecosystem expansion.
Transition Process and Infrastructure Updates
The brand transition is expected to be completed gradually over approximately three weeks. During this period, relevant infrastructure, wallets, and ecosystem applications will progressively update the token name to ensure a smooth user experience. TON officials stressed that the change applies only to the branding of the native token, while the TON blockchain network itself will continue to operate under the name "TON (The Open Network)" without any impact.
Strategic Roadmap and Future Plans
The restoration of Gram as the native token is a key milestone in the "Make TON Great Again" strategy. The TON team plans to reveal more ecosystem development plans and upgrades in the future. This brand upgrade signals the beginning of a new chapter for the TON ecosystem, with subsequent steps expected to further accelerate network growth.
