Trezor, the hardware wallet brand owned by Satoshilabs, has launched maximal extractable value (MEV) protection within its desktop application Trezor Suite. The feature, developed in partnership with Merkle.io, routes transactions through private channels to shield users from manipulative practices such as front-running and sandwich attacks that commonly occur on public mempools.
Seamless Protection Across Three Major Networks
The MEV protection applies automatically to transactions on Ethereum, BNB Chain, and Base, covering sending, swapping, and trading activities. By obscuring pending transactions from opportunistic bots, the tool aims to reduce slippage, cut down on failed transactions, and deliver more predictable outcomes. Lauri Hänninen, Product Marketing Lead at Trezor, stated that the rollout is intended to give users “greater confidence and control” when moving funds through Trezor Suite, targeting exploitative order-flow behaviors associated with MEV.
Technical Implementation and User Experience
The underlying infrastructure for private routing is provided by Merkle.io, which integrates seamlessly into Trezor Suite’s existing workflow. No additional setup or configuration is required from users; the protection is enabled by default during normal transaction flow. Trezor emphasized that the feature preserves the platform’s fee selection mechanism and does not interfere with user choice.
Extending Trezor’s Self-Custody Mission
Since its founding in 2013, Trezor has championed self-custody through open-source tools. The company has expanded its hardware and software offerings in recent years, along with educational initiatives like Trezor Academy. The addition of MEV protection represents a practical security enhancement that aligns with its ongoing mission to empower users. The feature is immediately available in Trezor Suite desktop version. Trezor did not disclose plans for additional networks or future configuration options but confirmed that the current implementation specifically protects against front-running and sandwich attacks while maintaining existing workflows.
