Hardware wallet provider Trezor has integrated the WalletConnect protocol into its Trezor Suite desktop application, allowing users to securely interact with decentralized applications (dApps) without exposing private keys. The announcement was made on August 20, with the feature rolling out in the latest version of Trezor Suite.
What the Integration Enables
With WalletConnect, Trezor users can now connect to popular dApps across multiple blockchains directly from Trezor Suite. Supported platforms include Uniswap for token swaps, Aave for lending and borrowing, and OpenSea for NFT trading. All transaction confirmations still require physical verification on the Trezor device, ensuring private keys never leave cold storage. The integration supports networks such as Ethereum and Solana, and works with existing Trezor devices without requiring additional wallets or backup creations.
Praise from Trezor CEO
“This integration strengthens that balance between usability and security — keeping users in control while expanding what they can do from Trezor Suite,” said Matej Zak, CEO at Trezor. “Users can now explore the evolving Web3 landscape safely, without compromising self-custody.” The company emphasized that the feature is seamless and aims to remove barriers for hardware wallet users who wish to participate in DeFi, NFT, and other on-chain activities.
Broader Implications for Hardware Wallets
Previously, hardware wallets were primarily used for storing and sending cryptocurrencies, with limited ability to interact with smart contracts. Trezor’s move to integrate WalletConnect sets a new standard, enabling cold wallet holders to engage with DeFi protocols and NFT marketplaces while maintaining the highest level of security. Market observers note this could pressure competitors like Ledger to offer similar connectivity.
The integration is available now in Trezor Suite. Users can update their software to access the feature, which is fully compatible with Trezor Model T and Trezor Safe series devices.
