Global accommodation metasearch giant Trivago has announced a strategic integration with crypto-friendly travel platform Travala, bringing over 2.2 million hotel listings into Trivago's search interface. Users can now browse and book properties that support cryptocurrency payments through Trivago, with transactions seamlessly redirecting to Travala's portal where they can pay using more than 100 digital currencies, including Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH), alongside traditional fiat options.

Expanding Crypto Tourism Ecosystem

According to Travala's 2024 data, 78% of the platform's transactions were settled using digital currencies, indicating a surging embrace of crypto-based commerce in global tourism. Travala's AVA Smart Program incentivizes users with Bitcoin or its native token AVA for qualifying reservations, further attracting crypto enthusiasts. Juan Otero, CEO of Travala, stated: 'This integration with Trivago not only expands our reach but also demonstrates to global travelers the real-world utility of cryptocurrencies.'

Trivago Embraces Emerging Payment Methods

Timo Itterbeck, Head of Account Management for APAC-LATAM-Spain at Trivago, commented: 'By integrating Travala, we are expanding choice for our customers while broadening their ability to book with emerging payment options like cryptocurrencies. This aligns with our mission to enhance the spectrum of travel planning tools.' The partnership builds on Travala's previous integrations with Skyscanner and KAYAK, reinforcing its foothold in dominant travel aggregation ecosystems.

Financial Performance and Global Reach

Travala disclosed $100 million in annual revenue for 2024, nearly doubling its previous year's earnings. Founded in 2017, the platform now facilitates hotel reservations, flight tickets, and curated excursions across 230 countries. Trivago, a Nasdaq-listed accommodation metasearch leader, is introducing crypto payment options to its global user base through this deal, signaling a major step in mainstream travel platforms' adoption of novel financial technologies.

Industry analysts believe this integration could prompt more mainstream travel platforms to follow suit, accelerating the adoption of cryptocurrencies in travel spending. As demand for decentralized payment methods grows, the Travala-Trivago partnership may become a key inflection point for the crypto travel sector.
