Integration Overview
Global accommodation metasearch giant Trivago has announced a strategic partnership with Travala, a leading cryptocurrency-friendly travel booking platform, to integrate Travala's hotel listings into Trivago's search interface. Users can now book stays at over 2.2 million properties worldwide using more than 100 digital currencies, including Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH), alongside traditional payment methods.
How It Works
When a traveler selects a Travala-affiliated property on Trivago, they are seamlessly redirected to Travala’s portal to complete the reservation. Travala’s AVA Smart Program rewards qualifying bookings with Bitcoin or AVA, the platform’s native token. According to 2024 data, 78% of Travala’s total transactions were conducted using digital currencies, underscoring the growing adoption of crypto-based commerce in global tourism.
Executive Commentary
Timo Itterbeck, Head of Account Management for APAC-LATAM-Spain at Trivago, remarked: “By integrating Travala, we’re expanding the choice for our customers while also broadening their ability to book with emerging payment options like cryptocurrencies.” This partnership builds on Travala’s previous integrations with Skyscanner and KAYAK, further strengthening its presence in dominant travel aggregation ecosystems.
Company Performance & Global Reach
Launched in 2017, Travala now facilitates hotel reservations, flight tickets, and curated excursions across 230 countries. The platform disclosed $100 million in 2024 annual revenue, nearly doubling its previous year’s earnings. Trivago, a Nasdaq-listed accommodation metasearch giant, enables users to evaluate lodging options worldwide. This collaboration aligns with Trivago’s mission to provide modern explorers with a broader range of travel planning tools and payment flexibility.
