World Liberty Financial, a Trump-associated DeFi project, clarifies its WLFI token launch plan: no team/advisor tokens unlock at launch, no new pre-sale round. Instead, it partners with major exchanges for a reward program. Trading expected late August/early September 2025, with early retail buyers prioritized.

World Liberty Financial, a decentralized finance (DeFi) project with close ties to the Trump family, moved to address investor concerns on July 19 by issuing a detailed clarification regarding the launch of its WLFI governance token. In a series of posts on social media platform X, the project explicitly denied rumors that team, advisor, or co-founder tokens would unlock at launch, and confirmed it would not open a new pre-sale round. Instead, the team announced a reward-based initiative in collaboration with major centralized exchanges, aiming to foster community trust through structural transparency.

No Insider Token Unlocks at Launch

“We want to dispel the rumors: NO co-founders, team, or advisor tokens will unlock upon launch. We’re committed to fairness and building trust from day one,” the project stated. The WLFI token, initially designed solely as a governance asset, recently transitioned to a tradable cryptocurrency following a community vote. While transferability has been approved, the team is taking a phased approach, with trading expected to begin in late August or early September 2025. Only a limited portion of WLFI tokens purchased during public sales at $0.015 and $0.05 will unlock initially, targeting early retail participants. “Plus, treasury tokens purely to seed liquidity. This keeps the community the main focus and driver behind this next step,” the project added. All other unlocks—including those tied to over-the-counter deals, founders, and advisors—will be subject to future community votes.

Rejecting New Pre-Sale, Embracing Exchange Rewards

Addressing speculation about a new investment round, WLFI confirmed it will not reopen a pre-sale. “More rumor-busting: We’re not opening another pre-sale round. Instead, we’re partnering with major exchanges to create a WLFI reward program – allowing you to earn on platforms you already use and trust. A new path for everyone to join the liberty movement!” This shift aims to leverage the established user bases of centralized exchanges, lowering the barrier for participation while avoiding potential regulatory complications associated with direct token sales.

Community Governance as the Anchor

The project, which also offers a stablecoin called USD1, has attracted significant attention due to its Trump family connections, raising questions about potential conflicts of interest. By delaying internal token unlocks and rejecting a pre-sale, World Liberty Financial seeks to demonstrate that community governance is more than a slogan. The team emphasized that all future decisions regarding token unlocks, including those for OTC buyers, founders, and advisors, will be put to community votes. This approach, while not eliminating all skepticism, signals a commitment to transparency and decentralized decision-making. As the trading date approaches, market participants will closely monitor liquidity provisioning and actual governance participation to gauge whether the project can live up to its “liberty” ethos.
