According to on-chain analytics firm Arkham Intelligence, former U.S. President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's cryptocurrency holdings surpassed $10 million on Monday morning. The bulk of his portfolio, valued at approximately $7.3 million, is concentrated in the MAGA (TRUMP) token, a meme coin inspired by Trump himself. The remaining holdings include Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other digital assets.
Details of Trump's Crypto Wealth
Arkham posted on social media platform X: "Donald Trump's on-chain holdings surpassed $10 million this morning, mainly fueled by the rise in price of the TRUMP coin — of which Trump currently holds $7.3M." The MAGA token surged 31.7% against the U.S. dollar within 24 hours following Trump's pro-crypto speech at the Libertarian National Convention. Beyond the meme coin, Trump's wallet also contains several hundred thousand dollars worth of Bitcoin and Ethereum, though exact amounts have not been publicly disclosed. This accumulation marks a dramatic shift from his previous skepticism.
From Skeptic to Crypto Advocate
As president, Trump famously said he was "not a fan of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, which are not money, and whose value is highly volatile and based on thin air." However, his recent rhetoric has completely reversed. Speaking at the Libertarian National Convention in Washington, D.C., on Saturday, he vowed to "stop Joe Biden's crusade to crush crypto" and pledged that "the future of crypto and the future of Bitcoin will be made in the USA, not driven overseas." He also promised to "support the right to self-custody" and "never allow the creation of a central bank digital currency (CBDC)." Additionally, he committed to freeing Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht, a figure long championed by crypto libertarians.
Trump's campaign has also started accepting crypto donations via Coinbase. Former Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Chairman Christopher Giancarlo has called Trump "America's first crypto president," noting that Bitcoin futures were approved during his administration. Since leaving office, Trump has launched three non-fungible token (NFT) collections. In March 2024, he referred to Bitcoin as "an additional form of currency." In February, he acknowledged cryptocurrency's popularity, stating, "BTC has taken on a life of its own — I can live with it."
Market Impact and Analyst Views
Several analysts view a potential second Trump term as positive for the crypto sector. Standard Chartered Bank, for instance, believes a second Trump term would be "broadly positive" for the crypto industry, citing a more favorable regulatory environment. However, critics argue that Trump's conversion is politically motivated and that his actual policies remain unclear. The MAGA token's price surge following his speech demonstrates the market's sensitivity to political signals. As of writing, Trump's total crypto holdings have slightly retreated but remain above the $10 million mark, with continued volatility expected as the election campaign progresses.
