World Liberty Financial (WLFI), the decentralized finance project co-founded by Donald Trump and his relatives, has rolled out a so-called "Super Node" tier—a staking level designed for elite investors. Under the proposal published on the project's website, participants must lock up 50 million WLFI tokens, currently valued at roughly $5 million, for a period of 180 days to qualify as Super Nodes.
What Benefits Do Super Nodes Receive?
Approved Super Node investors gain direct access to the business development team, involvement in partnership and collaboration discussions, and governance voting rights within the ecosystem. Additionally, those who cast at least two governance votes receive a 2% token reward. WLFI clarified that founders and political leaders tied to the project—including Trump family members—are excluded from these interactions; only the business development and compliance teams will engage with Super Nodes.
99% Approval, Yet No Independent Verification
The proposal won overwhelming support from WLFI token holders, with the project reporting 99% approval across 1,786 votes. However, no independent third party has verified this tally, raising questions among critics about the authenticity of the vote.
Political Conflict-of-Interest Concerns Escalate
Controversy centers around the Trump family's financial stake. The project's terms allocate 75% of new token sale proceeds to the Trump family. That means a $5 million token purchase could effectively funnel around $3.75 million to them. Opponents in Congress and ethics watchdogs argue that such an arrangement creates a clear conflict of interest—especially as Trump holds sway over U.S. crypto regulation and policy decisions.
White House Responds: No Presidential Involvement
A White House spokesperson stated that the president does not engage in business deals that could affect his constitutional duties. Officials emphasized that government members with ties to the project comply with federal ethics rules and recuse themselves when necessary. WLFI recently removed its "Meet Our Team" webpage, which the spokesperson attributed to routine updates rather than a response to media scrutiny.
A Controversial Shift in Crypto Governance
The Super Node program marks a notable departure from typical blockchain governance models, which usually prioritize decentralization and broad community participation. By offering extra power to a small group of high‑net‑worth investors, WLFI challenges the notion of equitable governance within the crypto space. Further details on token distribution and on‑chain data are yet to be disclosed.
