Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), the Nasdaq-listed company behind the DJT ticker, reported a $238.1 million net loss for the second quarter, while revenue came in at just $1.7 million. Based on the company’s filing and a CoinDesk report cited in the source material, TMTG recorded $360.6 million in losses in the first half as crypto asset prices fell.
Most of the quarterly loss was unrealized
The source says the bulk of the second-quarter loss was a non-cash accounting loss. Unrealized losses tied to digital assets, digital assets used as collateral, and equity securities reached $190.4 million.
In other words, the damage largely came from a decline in the value of holdings rather than an operating cash outflow. That stands out against quarterly revenue of only $1.7 million.
TMTG held 9,477.16 BTC at the end of June
As of June 30, TMTG held 9,477.16 bitcoin with a fair value of about $557.1 million. The company’s balance sheet exposure means swings in crypto prices show up directly in its financial results.
Trump remains the largest shareholder
DJT trades under the initials of current U.S. President Donald Trump. The report says Trump holds more than 40% of the company through a revocable trust, making him the largest shareholder.
Over the past year, TMTG has pushed capital into bitcoin and crypto-related assets. The source also notes that Chain News previously reported TMTG had transferred $165 million in bitcoin to Crypto.com while stressing it was not selling the coins. More recently, the company said it would end its partnership with Crypto.com and shift its business toward fusion energy.
The latest earnings report puts a clear accounting cost on that crypto exposure after prices pulled back.
