Trump Media has launched Truth API, a paid data service tied to Truth Social that gives customers a dedicated channel for direct access to newly published posts from major accounts, including President Donald Trump’s account.
The service went live on Aug. 1 and is being marketed to high-frequency traders, quantitative funds, and algorithmic trading firms that want to feed fresh Truth Social posts into their trading models as quickly as possible. For firms built around automated strategies, even a lead measured in milliseconds can carry major financial value.
Pricing reaches as high as $100,000 per month
Based on the information currently available, Truth API subscriptions can cost as much as $100,000 a month. Trump Media is positioning the product as a 24/7 feed and says the dataset stretches back to 2022, giving clients material for historical backtesting.
Interim Trump Media CEO McGurn said, “Markets have long moved on posts published to Truth Social. Truth API delivers a direct, authorized real-time stream, and it extends our strategy of monetizing proprietary assets through licensing while building high-margin recurring revenue.”
The commercial case for the product rests heavily on the reach of the @realDonaldTrump account. As of now, the account has 13 million followers, making it the largest on Truth Social. Trump has also used the platform to announce major policy decisions first, including updates related to the Iran conflict.
Senators ask the SEC to examine the service
The launch drew criticism before the product officially went live. Democratic Senators Adam Schiff and Elizabeth Warren sent a letter to Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Paul Atkins asking regulators to investigate whether Trump Media may have broken the law.
In the letter, they wrote: “This appears to be a corrupt misuse of presidential power for personal gain that harms ordinary investors, undermines market integrity, and allows Wall Street and other wealthy insiders to profit.”
The SEC declined to comment to CNBC on the letter. It has not publicly said whether it plans to open a formal investigation.
Governance concerns are now central to the debate
From a corporate governance standpoint, Trump Media is a publicly listed company in which the Trump family holds the largest ownership stake. By packaging a sitting president’s social posts as a financial data product for sale, the company has opened itself to accusations that the same family could profit from both making policy and selling information tied to policy announcements. That conflict structure sits at the center of the concerns raised by Schiff and Warren.
In the near term, as long as Trump continues to post major policy announcements first on Truth Social, Truth API is likely to appeal to quantitative funds and news terminal providers, while giving Trump Media a new licensing revenue stream. Whether that business can continue without interruption may depend on what the SEC or Congress does next, if either moves forward with further scrutiny.
