Israel Defense Forces Persian-language spokesman Lt. Col. (res.) Kamal Penhasi issued a warning on X in Persian, urging all citizens to avoid trains, railway lines, and stations until 21:00 local time. "For your safety, we ask you not to travel by or use trains inside Iran from now until 21:00 Iran time," the statement read. "Being on a train or near railway lines will endanger your life."
Rail services in cities like Mashhad were canceled after the warning. Subsequent airstrikes confirmed the alert: Israeli Army Radio and IDF sources said warplanes struck railway tracks, crossings, and bridges in multiple areas. Iran's state news agency IRNA reported that a railway bridge near Kashan in central Iran was attacked, killing two and injuring three.
The April 7 airstrikes are part of "Operation Epic Fury" (also known as "Roaring Lion"), a coordinated US-Israeli military campaign that has escalated since late February 2026, targeting Iranian military infrastructure, missile production facilities, and regime-linked logistics networks.
Infrastructure damage extended far beyond railways. The Karaj B1 Bridge, hailed as the highest bridge in the Middle East and a key route from Tehran to the west, was struck multiple times in early April. Casualty reports indicate 8 to 13 killed and 95 wounded, including a civilian gathered under the bridge. A highway bridge connecting Tabriz in northern Iran to Zanjan was also hit and closed. The Parchin missile base southeast of Tehran, a key Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps stronghold, suffered massive explosions, according to opposition-linked media and Iranian domestic reports. The IDF said airstrikes also targeted air defense systems, drone infrastructure, a large ballistic missile position near Tabriz in northwestern Tehran, and mobile missile launchers, with video released publicly.
Explosions were also reported at Tehran's Mehrabad International Airport and Khorramabad Airport in Lorestan province during the same wave of strikes. Iranian media Mehr News reported that a synagogue on Fariman Street in central Tehran was damaged or destroyed. Western sources had not fully verified that claim at press time.
Trump: 'The Whole Civilization Will Die Tonight'
Trump commented on the situation Monday on Truth Social, describing the night as a turning point. He wrote: "The whole civilization will die tonight and never be reborn. I don't want this to happen, but I'm afraid it will happen."
The US president continued: "However, now that we have achieved 'complete and total regime change,' allowing different, wiser, and less radical ideas to prevail, perhaps something revolutionary and beautiful will happen, who knows? Earlier during Easter, reports emerged that the Trump administration had issued an ultimatum to Iran regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Trump also separately referenced planned "Power Plant Day" and "Bridge Day" operations as possible next steps if Iran did not comply.
Iran has rejected these ultimatums, vowing a "decisive response," with state media reporting that the regime remains operational despite ongoing destruction.
