TRUMP token fell 5% after Trump Mobile said its long-delayed T1 handset is scheduled to begin shipping next week, according to CoinDesk market data. The market reaction suggested traders did not treat the shipping update as a clear positive for the president-linked memecoin.
CoinDesk had previously reported that both the Trump Mobile project and the president’s namesake memecoin have struggled to gain traction. The handset’s launch timeline has been pushed back multiple times, customer support has been limited, and TRUMP is down nearly 90%. Even so, the latest update means the T1 may finally move from a political merchandise concept into an actually shipped consumer device.
Trump Mobile is using an outside handset partner
The report said Trump Mobile is a mobile virtual network operator, which means it does not have the capability to design and manufacture its own phone. Instead, it worked with an external company to select a device and give it Trump-themed branding. That setup is not unusual in the sector; Solana’s first Saga phone was also a re-skinned Osom OV-1.
The Verge got access to a T1 handset last month and said it “sure looks a lot like an HTC U24,” a phone released in 2024. The actual manufacturer of the Trump phone remains unclear. Neither HTC nor Trump Mobile gave The Verge a direct answer. Trump Mobile has previously said the phones receive final assembly in the U.S., while originating overseas.
Phone rollout and memecoin operation are separate
For potential buyers, the shipping timeline suggests the T1 is at least nearing real delivery. In the token market, though, the 5% decline pointed to a different reading: traders appeared to view the phone less as a catalyst and more as another Trump-branded product still trying to show demand after the initial hype faded.
