TWEX, the virtual asset exchange backed by Taiwan Mobile, said it has opened registration to all natural persons in Taiwan, ending its previous restriction to Taiwan Mobile users. Users can now buy Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH) directly through the Taiwan Mobile app. At the same time, TWEX has been added to the Fubon Securities AI PRO App, giving Fubon Securities members a way to purchase crypto within their existing investment interface.

Broader access and a new buying channel

The change expands TWEX beyond its earlier user base and gives retail users two direct entry points. One is the Taiwan Mobile app, where eligible users can purchase BTC and ETH. The other is the Fubon Securities AI PRO App, where securities clients can complete crypto purchases without leaving the investment environment they already use. The update is aimed at reducing friction in the buying process.

Company focus on trust and compliance

Lin Chih-chen, general manager of Taiwan Mobile and chairman of Fusheng Digital, said demand for virtual assets centers on two things: the opportunity to buy on dips and access to a trusted trading platform. He said TWEX has relied on group resources since its launch in May last year, while keeping legal compliance and transaction security at the center of its operation. The latest expansion, he said, is intended to make TWEX a trusted gateway for the public entering Web3 applications.

User base shows a different profile from typical crypto exchanges

Han Kun-chu, vice president of Taiwan Mobile's Web3 business and general manager of Fusheng Digital, said monthly registered users have posted double-digit growth since TWEX went live. He also shared user profile data that differs from what is commonly seen at traditional crypto exchanges. More than 70% of users follow a small-amount investment strategy, while nearly 50% are aged 40 or above. That points to a user base with broader age coverage and a stronger tilt toward smaller allocations.

Crypto withdrawals remain unavailable

TWEX currently focuses on New Taiwan dollar withdrawals back to bank accounts and does not support on-chain crypto withdrawals. In practical terms, BTC or ETH bought on the platform cannot yet be transferred directly to a personal cold wallet, MetaMask, or another exchange. The company said it is using a closed-loop model at this stage for newcomer protection and to align with anti-money laundering requirements, with asset flows limited to the bank-TWEX channel.
